The basic requirements for applying for a skilled independent visa, whereby you are truly independent in choosing when and where YOU decide to work and for whom, are briefly outlined below:

Age - you must be under 45 when you apply.

English language - you need to have sufficient ability in the English language to work safely in Australia. You may be required to sit an IELTS English language test.

Qualifications - you must have post-secondary qualifications and your skills must be assessed by the relevant assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation.

Nominated occupation - when you apply fro your visa, you are required to nominate a skilled occupation, which is relevant to your skills and qualifications. Your nominated occupation must be one that is identifiedon the Skilled Occupations List. Recent work experience - you will need evidence of at least 12 months recent relevant work experience the period of your work experience required will vary depending on the number of points you may be granted for your nominated occupation.

Australian qualification exemption - you do not need to meet the work experience requirement if you have completed an Australian qualification less than 6 months before you lodge your visa application.

Skills assessment - before you apply for a skilled independent visa , you must have had your skills assessed by the Australian assessing authority designated to assess your nominated occupation and received a positive result. If you are unable to meet these basic requirements, then you should NOT continue with a General Skilled Migration application.

Q What if i have experience but don't have a formal qualification in my trade, can I still apply?

A If you have proven experience in your trade, but do not have a formal qualification or you have not served a formal apprenticeship, depending on the number of years experience you have, we may be able to help. There are a range of trade skills including bricklayers-carpenters-hairdressers- chefs- landscape gardeners- painter & decorators-roof tilers- wall tilers- glaziers- cabinet makers-solid plasters -roof plumbers, to name a few, whereby we can assist you to complete an Australian Qualification here in the UK . This is known as The (AQF) Australian Qualification Framework (similar to a UK NVQ) and will be your pathway to obtain your skilled visa. It will also give you a head start for when you arrive in Australia looking for work, to have an Australian recognized qualification which is more appealing to an Australian employer to know you have the met the Australian standard of training.
